For the 5th episode, Attack on Titan delivered an awesome ending for the fights on both sides of the wall. Even if some of the outcomes of what happened might have made us both sad and mad, we can’t deny that it was quite a relieving episode.
So the sacrifice that Erwin and some of the other scouts made in order to distract the Beast Titan did pay off! We finally got to see Levi going up against the Beast Titan. And of course, since he was pretty mad about the massacre the titan made with his comrades, especially Erwin, he went after him with the look of a murderer on his eyes. But I don’t think we could call what happened a fight since it was really one sided. All we really saw was Levi slashing through the titan, cutting his hand and pulling the guy inside of him out. Levi did really have hope after getting him to transfer his power to one of the remaining scouts but all he saw around him were dead corpses. And when he was thinking of what he was going to do with the Beast Titan, he was surprised by a titan coming to save his comrade by getting him away from Levi. And the least we could say was that Levi got really, really pissed off.
Back to those on the other side of the wall, Armin finally decided to make a move and came up with a great plan to defeat both the colossal and the Armored Titan. As always, that genius did figure out how to defeat them but unfortunately, it did come at a price. Mikasa, Sasha, Jean and Connie had to defeat Reiner. Even though we thought he was done for back in the third episode, the Armored Titan makes his comeback and tries his best to go straight to Eren. But unfortunately for him, the small group had already planned for his death. While applying their plan though, Sasha failed at fulfilling her part. When everyone thought that all hope was lost, Hange appeared showing us that she was still alive and able to fight. She managed to give Mikasa an opening and she killed him with all her will and might. And this time, there is no way he could still be alive.
Eren and Armin had to defeat Bertholdt and Armin did have a great plan for that. And even though what he was planning to do was really risky for him, he did manage to convince Eren that he wasn’t courageous enough to get himself killed. Eren went along with the plan knowing very well that his friend was lying to him about how he couldn’t die because they had to see the ocean together. Seeing Armin sacrificing himself was terrible. As soon as he got closer to the Collosal Titan, the monster started burning him up alive with his power. It really was a terrible scene. Seeing Armin burning up and still trying to stay alive as long as possible to buy Eren some time was heartbreaking. Even though Eren did plog the hole and got out of his titan to kill Bertholdt, even though we saw him dragging Bertholdt who no longer had feet or arms, I don’t think that anybody could have found that satisfying after seeing Armin’s body all burnt. A horrifying sight added up with Eren saying that he always knew that Armin was the bravest out of all of them. It should have made hundreds of fans cry!
This episode did mark the end of Bertholdt and Reiner, who used to control two of the most powerful titans existing. But the Beast Titan did get away and will probably be back for the next episode “Midnight Sun.” It should be where all the remaining scouts meet along with the beast titan so let’s wait and see how all of this will end.
